NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Titans continued their dominant start to the 2017 regular season with a 39-3 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Nissan Stadium. Under head coach Jose Wilson, the Titans improved to 5-0, maintaining their lead in the division standings.

The Titans struck first in the opening quarter when Norman Race punched in a 1-yard rushing touchdown, capped with a successful extra point by John Kerr, giving Tennessee an early 7-0 lead. Tennessee’s defense put early pressure on the Chiefs, forcing a key interception at the start of the second quarter when Robert Palomino returned a pass 27 yards for a touchdown.

Kerr added a 51-yard field goal to extend the lead to 10-0 early in the second quarter. The Chiefs' only score came on a 47-yard field goal by Thomas Clinton in response to the Titans’ early dominance.

Phillip Richardson, Tennessee's quarterback, completed 23 of 35 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns, also contributing 15 yards on the ground. Richardson connected with receivers Mark Gibson, who had 35 receiving yards and a rushing touchdown, and Norman Race, who also caught two touchdown passes while rushing for 60 yards.

On the ground, running back William Bishop led the Titans rushers with 77 yards. Wide receiver Alan Anderson added a rushing touchdown and 19 receiving yards.

The Titans’ defense played a pivotal role, recording four sacks, forcing one fumble recovery, and two interceptions. Defensive end Fred McCoy contributed three sacks to disrupt the Chiefs’ offense throughout the game. The Chiefs were held to just 116 passing yards with two interceptions and managed only 25 rushing yards.

The Titans capitalized on Chiefs’ turnovers, including a critical fumble recovery by Frank Daniels, which helped set up another touchdown late in the second quarter. Tennessee closed the first half with a touchdown pass from Richardson to Gibson.

Tennessee led 24-3 at halftime and maintained control in the third quarter, limiting Kansas City to a single punt for a touchback. Both teams combined for no third-down conversions during the game, underscoring the defensive dominance.

Despite an efficient field goal by Chiefs kicker Thomas Clinton and the Chiefs’ effort to avoid penalties, Tennessee’s disciplined play, with only two penalties for 15 yards, helped secure the comprehensive win. Kansas City committed six penalties for 45 yards.

The win solidifies the Titans' position at first place in their division with a 2-0 division record. The Chiefs fall to 2-3 with the defeat.

Coach Jose Wilson’s squad now looks ahead to maintaining their unbeaten record as they continue their home stand with increased confidence.
