The Tennessee Titans secured a 29-0 shutout over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their 2017 preseason Week 1 game at Nissan Stadium on August 5. Titans head coach Jose Wilson saw his team control the game through both offense and defense in the season opener.

Tennessee opened the scoring early in the first quarter with a touchdown pass from Phillip Richardson to William Bishop, who broke a cornerback to score on a 7-yard reception. Kicker John Kerr added the extra point, putting the Titans up 7-0 at 7:52. Tennessee struck again minutes later on a short run by Norman Race, giving them a 14-0 lead after another successful extra point by Kerr.

The Buccaneers' offense struggled to gain momentum. Quarterback Glen White threw an interception early in the first quarter when Juan Soares picked the pass at Tampa Bay’s 40. The Bucs failed to put any points on the board throughout the game.

Defensively, the Titans applied constant pressure on the Buccaneers. Defensive end Fred McCoy led the charge with five sacks, including a pivotal safety in the second quarter when McCoy sacked Glen White in the end zone, increasing Tennessee's lead to 16-0.

The Titans' special teams also played a significant role, frequently pinning Tampa Bay deep with long punts from William Mata. Tennessee’s defense forced a turnover on a forced fumble recovered by Tampa Bay’s Jackie Long in the second quarter, but the Buccaneers could not capitalize.

John Kerr extended the advantage with two field goals in the third quarter from 44 and 51 yards, pushing the score to 22-0. The Titans held the Buccaneers scoreless through all four quarters.

Offensively, Tennessee amassed 238 passing yards on 31 completions from 46 attempts, with Richardson throwing one touchdown and one interception. The rushing attack totaled 176 yards, with Norman Race leading with 51 yards and a touchdown. William Bishop contributed 41 rushing yards and a touchdown, along with 13 receiving yards.

The Buccaneers managed 196 passing yards on 23 completions with no touchdowns and one interception. Their rushing attack was limited to just 19 yards.

The Titans' defense pressured the Buccaneers relentlessly, recording nine sacks in total. The team committed four penalties for 35 yards while the Buccaneers had three penalties for 27 yards.

Head coach Jose Wilson's squad displayed strong fundamentals and a balanced attack in their preseason debut. The shutout victory sets a positive tone as the Titans prepare for the regular season ahead.
