Ah, more things to finish off MFN for good: "Block individual plays from being used (these plays will be hidden in the new UI; if selected in the old UI, they’ll be removed from the game plan)"
I also saw this as an iron hammer.Rooted in the "fix player weights" problem.
I believe it would be more useful for admins to set specific player positions allowed at each position.
The real truth is - Setherick's ideas about player weights over multiple versions of MFN as the beginning of fixing multiple issues still holds true.
Pretty sure he's been mentioning it since I started way back in '18.
My thoughts are that there's a bunch of plays that need to be scrapped in mfn.
There is a pool of players willing to create plays (i think all of us got at least 1 submit, lol).
What matters is how many of those players will test that play 1000x, compile data, and do the work. For all the times I've read someone say they want to and can make great plays for MFN, I have NEVER read someone say I am willing to test that play to prove it works and it's not broken. Never.
I'd suggest that now is the time to recruit a small pool of players to create new player weights. I would suggest that after that dev team has fought it out and figured it out and that new player weights are highly viable (near alpha release), that then would be the moment to open submission for new plays from the community WITH such near-alpha player weights.
Of, course, player submissions would require an actual # of tests for each play submitted. 1k tests seems great!
Fix weights. Create plays. Test plays. A true beta where players can test specific plays instead of having to run the current full season MFN-# beta league format. Current MFN beta is useless and nonspecific.
IF the UI is 2/3rds complete (I pulled that percentage out of my booty, i have no idea), now is the time to cull the willing into beta teams to fix the true gameplay issues: Weights, position use, play viability.
Now is the time to create situation specific beta scenarios instead of the full game/full season complexity in beta testing this day.
Moving forward, beta leagues can go away. beta testing with situation specific and repeatable play vs play testing needs to become the normal for MFN beta.
I can't wait for the UI to be done.
I hope that foundations are being laid to truly fix player weights, position usage, and play viability moving forward. This will require small, dedicated teams able to test in a repeatable and situation specific testing environment. The beta groups should be qualified by JDB. The people doing the work should be rewarded.
It would be foolish to not include the code foundations for gameplay revisions with haste post new UI release. It would be foolish to not include a shadow box for ease of testing in the new UI.Testers and JDB need to be able to work with specific situations, repeatedly, in order to complete objectives assigned by the creator (yep, JDB has to be a tester as well).
As we go forward with the UI, I hope that the inevitability of fixing the game engine itself is included in the new UI framework.
In my own experience as a game creator (Sanctum CCG), we always have a shadow server for dev.
There's so many folks that will do the gameplay testing because they want to help.
More than 1000x if needed.
Be sure to enable them to do so with the new UI.
pay the betas with subs. (do NOT google that!).
-> Last - dafuq is the target release date for that alpha UI?
